The events worth preparing for
Tastemaker’s Note → Cinema has always been the place where fantasy gets a dress code, and right now the whole machine is warming up again: retrospectives, festivals, a new director, a new Bond on the way. Plus, it may be worth paying attention to what gets made next at upcoming film festivals.
Letter From The Tastemaker

We meet countless characters through cinema who shape our lives, but every so often, one becomes so special that we can’t imagine our lives without them. We begin taking them with us into our own worlds: into events, travels, fashion, experiences, and everyday rituals.
We simply can’t accept that they exist only on the big screen, so we reinvent them, bringing pieces of their world into our own.
James Bond is perhaps the ultimate example of this kind of main-character energy. He is more than a character we watch.
He represents a way of moving through the world: how we dress, where we travel, what we drink, what we drive, where we stay, and how we experience luxury, adventure, and intrigue.
→ Thanks to him, “shaken, not stirred” made martinis part of cocktail culture.
→ Bond helped cement the idea of the perfectly dressed man with his perfected tailored tuxedos.
→ Omega and Rolex became associated with the Bond lifestyle because the man of intrigue always wears one.
Even places like Monaco, Venice, the Caribbean, London and other Bond locations became part of the fantasy that we dive into.
Today, when people travel they don’t just want to visit a destination; they want to experience it Bond-style.
When we see James Bond in a destination, the destination becomes more than geography. It becomes part of the Bond universe.
With that in mind, Instead of simply booking a hotel, you might want:
the grand suite rather than the standard room
a private car rather than a transfer
a vintage Aston Martin rather than a rental
cocktails at the hotel bar rather than drinks at a tourist restaurant
a private yacht rather than a group boat
dinner somewhere discreet and exceptional
a casino or members' club
a tailored suit for the evening
a watch, luggage or accessory that completes the character
a hidden bar or speakeasy
an unexpected excursion
a dramatic arrival
a little mystery
The experience is curated around this main character identity, not simply around sightseeing. And Bond makes the luxury piece feel more experiential.
Villa Skyfall is almost a perfect real-world example of James Bond, a fictional character, moving off the screen and into our physical life.
It’s not just a house with a few James Bond decorations. It’s a sprawling 22,400-square-foot, $85 million estate in Delray Beach, Florida, created by developer and James Bond devotee Aldo Stark. It sits on 2.5 acres in the gated Stone Creek Ranch community and was inspired by both the 2012 film Skyfall and Bond's fictional childhood home in Scotland.
The entire property translates the Bond lifestyle into a way of living.
And what’s SO bond about it? Let’s count the options…
1. The Glass-Walled Automotive Gallery (yes gallery, not garage): this house turns cars into art with a rotating platform for displaying collector cars. Stark's own collection includes an Aston Martin associated with Skyfall, although the vehicles themselves aren't included in the sale.

2. The Grand Salon is Pure Cinematic Spectacle (yes salon, not living room): The central salon rises 32 feet, with crystal chandeliers, backlit onyx, Macassar ebony and glossy Brazilian Guyana wood. Floor-to-ceiling glass connects the dramatic interior to the pool and landscape.

3. The Two-Level Couture Styled Dressing Room (yes dressing room, not closet): The primary suite has a two-level couture-style dressing room inspired by a Parisian jewelry boutique, with display areas for clothing, watches, handbags and jewelry. There's also a private hair and makeup salon with Verde Alpi marble and a botanical Murano glass chandelier.

This is another beautiful example of taking something from Bond's world and turning it into an experience rather than an object.
Throughout the estate, the Bond fantasy continues through a cinematic theater, casino-style poker lounge, rainforest-inspired wellness retreat, dramatic onyx and crystal interiors, resort-style pool, private entertaining spaces and expansive gardens.
Every detail is designed to turn the rituals of Bond's world, from travel and entertainment to style, secrecy and indulgence, into a special way of living.

What’s Shaping The World
Tastemaker’s Note → Most of us have walked out of a movie like James Bond wanting to live inside it. But there is some real math to recreating that feeling ($85m worth that is). The bigger idea is that what we watch becomes inspiration to how we want to live and what we want to build. Nostalgia is the clearest design brief, and apparently a very expensive one.
Some characters are too good to leave on the screen….
So we bring them with us, one perfectly paired martini at a time 🍸

P.S. Like my style (and taste)? Work with me.
