A Taste To Start

A convenience store is not merely a place where customers come to buy practical necessities, it has to be somewhere they can enjoy and take pleasure in discovering things they like.

Letter From The Tastemaker

After Covid, it became clear that I could never give up my gourmet grocery delivery service. The ease of the order, delivery and the extra time I received in return was incredibly valuable.

It became evident that grocery delivery was not a temporary convenience but a permanent upgrade to my daily life.

What initially began as a form of protection from contagious disease, blended into the convenience that made my life more livable, if that makes sense…

The ability to place an order in minutes, have it arrive predictably at your door, and bypass crowded aisles, lines, and mental checklists fundamentally changed how my value was measured.

But the real benefit wasn’t the delivery itself and instead the hours and energy returned back to me.

That extra time translated into something far more meaningful than convenience. It meant…

→ fewer interruptions
→ less decision fatigue
→ a smoother rhythm to the day

It removed my recurring task that demanded planning, travel, and attention, replacing it with a seamless system that simply worked at the touch of a button.

In that exchange, grocery delivery became emblematic of a larger shift: once a service proves it can reliably give time back without sacrificing quality, returning to the old way feels inefficient, even unnecessary in my opinion.

Even though I was giving up a level of control because I couldn’t choose the groceries, feel or smell them for freshness, it became evident that there were individuals better tasked at choosing than me.

That same realization extends far beyond groceries and into nearly every corner of modern life.

Once you experience beauty services that come to your home (and I obsess over this), meals that arrive curated to your preferences, or subscriptions that replenish exactly when needed, the old model—driving, waiting, scheduling, repeating—begins to feel outdated.

There is nothing quite better or professional for photography than a Leica lens but there is also nothing simpler to carry than your phone that doubles as a calling device and camera (amongst other things).

How often have you discovered new products and bought more than intended while standing at checkout in Sephora (thanks to their revolving rack of mini beauty aids)?

Would you try the 24-hour vending machine selling gourmet cupcakes instead of the corner deli with its predictable power bars?

At the core of this shift is a simple but powerful transition: we went from manual to automatic. This move from manual to automatic has redefined what feels luxurious, and not only because of technology.

Today, the most desirable experiences are the ones that simply happen, allowing the right attention and energy to be redirected toward what truly matters.

Tell me, what are some conveniences as luxury that you’d never give up?

Lifestyle + Experiential Assets

“No rules, no limits, no check-in, no check-out…”

…is a discreet convenience perfected by Marrakech’s Royal Mansour hotel. The elimination of rigid structures and low intervention experiences allow for freedom and flexibility to become the more essential elements of the stay. An enhanced atmosphere of ultimate privacy, the blend of premium amenities and impeccable service without interruption is a growing trend reshaping the industry. This type of luxury is not a hybrid and definitely not a self-catering convenience. Instead it offers guests a unique autonomous stay while still enjoying five-star amenities. It reimagines service to remove unnecessary handholding for a more personal experience offering staff digitally, as a more behind-the-scenes support.

What fascinates me about this level of customer experience:
An underground labyrinth allows staff to move discreetly and invisibly
Dining is always in a different location with different scenery
You get a car, driver and guide completely dedicated to you
No advance program of any kind, leaving it to custom tailored personalized journeys…

….and so, the door is always open because the journey begins and ends with you..
